Spring in the Austronesia,
Flowers blooming,
Bees and butterflies dancing.
Honey-fermented dark chocolate,
Spiced green chocolate,
A fascinating chocolate exploration journey.
Much like the Austronesian culture,
Riding the wind and
Breaking through the waves,
Sailing from the Pacific to the world.
Contemporary Indigenous Taiwanese Artist Yosifu Collaborates with World’s Best Dark Chocolate Winner Fu Wan Chocolate to Launch Seasons "of Austronesia" Chocolate Series, Showcasing Taiwan's Terroir in Contemporary Art and Chocolates on the Global Stage
Contemporary Indigenous Taiwanese artist Yosifu, based in the UK, collaborates with Fu Wan Chocolate, the six-time global gold medal winner, to introduce the "Seasons of Austronesia" chocolate series. Drawing inspiration from the ingredients of Eastern Taiwan and the rich heritage of Taiwan's Austronesian culture, this collaboration aims to merge art and chocolate into a unique sensory experience. Through innovative packaging design featuring Yosifu's original artworks, the collection aspires to embark on a journey reminiscent of ancient seafaring vessels, carrying the essence of Austronesian culture and stories to audiences worldwide, spreading love and inspiration.
Yosifu, born in the Amis tribe's Matadim community in Hualien's Yuli Township, has made Edinburgh, the artistic hub of the UK, his home. Over the past two decades, he has been one of the few artists promoting Taiwanese culture with Indigenous themes in Europe, garnering international acclaim through his diverse artistic expressions spanning music, photography, design, and painting. His bold use of color, vibrant themes, and adept fusion of Eastern and Western elements have earned him recognition globally, with collectors worldwide.
Dedicated to promoting aesthetic education through art, Yosifu conducts lectures and workshops in various schools, tirelessly advocating for Indigenous Taiwanese art and culture. He has participated in numerous renowned public art projects and created striking designs for internationally renowned brands such as Rolls-Royce, McDonald's, and Martell Whisky. In 2022, he received Taiwan Golden Bell Award for his role as host on the National Geographic Channel program "Secrets of the Ocean Tribes"
Settled in Scotland and a fervent traveler, Yosifu has always had a passion for chocolates. Interestingly, the English pronunciation of "Kacaw," his surname, bears a striking resemblance to "Cacao." He believes that tasting chocolate is akin to embarking on a journey, with each flavor and surprise offering a source of immense energy for the mind, body, and soul. During a trip to Cuba in 2010, witnessing the ancient chocolate-making process and culture deeply moved him, sparking a silent vow to one day integrate chocolate into his artistic creations. Amidst the pandemic, a serendipitous encounter led him to meet the founders of Fu Wan Chocolate, the husband-and-wife duo Warren and Audrey. After visiting the Fu Wan estate and being profoundly impressed by their dedication, Yosifu shared his vision of promoting Taiwanese culture globally. Thus, a partnership was formed to create extraordinary Taiwanese-inspired chocolates. Warren promptly delved into research, exploring various seasonal ingredients from Hualien and the culinary traditions of the Amis tribe. After experimenting with over a dozen Amis spring vegetables, they finally unveiled their first joint creation, the "Spring of Austronesia - Praise" chocolate, a year later.
